Associate Veterinarian (Full-Time or Part-Time)

*Independent, Veterinarian-Owned Practice, *Full-Time or Part-Time, *Four-Day Work Week, *No Weekends, *No Holidays
Looking for your next veterinary practice where you will be supported, appreciated, and have the opportunity to grow professionally?
Veterinary medicine is challenging enough. Your workplace should support you, encourage you, and give you the opportunity to enjoy both your career and your life outside of work.
This is the culture we are committed to building at Barnes Lake Veterinary Center. We believe teamwork, respect, open communication, and work-life balance are essential to providing exceptional care for our patients, our clients, and one another.
Barnes Lake Veterinary Center is a privately owned, veterinarian-led small animal practice located in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, just 30 minutes east of Pittsburgh. We are looking for a full-time or part-time Associate Veterinarian to join our practice.
Whether you are an experienced veterinarian or a newer graduate seeking mentorship, we are willing to work with the right candidate. We are not simply looking to fill a position. We are looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career and help shape the future of our practice.
Why do our team members enjoy working here?
Because everyone matters.
Our technicians and assistants are highly trained, skilled, and encouraged to fully utilize their abilities. They place IV catheters, monitor anesthesia, perform laboratory testing, obtain radiographs, educate clients, and play an active role in patient care. This allows our doctors to focus on practicing medicine while knowing they have a dependable support system beside them.
We value collaboration, communication, and mutual respect. We celebrate successes, solve challenges together, and believe everyone contributes to the care we provide.
What does a full-time schedule look like?
Our full-time veterinarians enjoy a four-day work week.
Appointment hours are:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Tuesday and Thursday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
No weekends! No holidays!
Appointments are intentionally scheduled to end before closing, allowing dedicated time to complete medical records, return client calls, perform surgery discharges, collaborate with colleagues, and finish the day without feeling rushed. While every day in veterinary medicine is different, we believe thoughtful scheduling allows everyone to provide exceptional patient care while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Part-time opportunities are also available, and we are happy to work with the right candidate to create a schedule that fits their needs.
Our hospital is designed to help you succeed. We opened in 2022 and provide care exclusively for dogs and cats.
Our facility includes:
Dedicated surgery suite
Dedicated dental suite with digital dental radiography
Full digital radiology
Full ultrasound system and handheld ultrasound
IDEXX in-house laboratory, including ProCyte, Catalyst, SediVue, Coag Dx, InVue, and additional diagnostic equipment

Every veterinarian brings unique interests, strengths, and career goals. We believe those individual passions make our practice stronger. If you have a passion for surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, internal medicine, behavior, Fear Free techniques, or another area of veterinary medicine, we are open to expanding services and investing in new equipment, training, and ideas. We welcome fresh perspectives and believe the right candidate should have the opportunity to help shape the future of our practice.
What We Offer:
Competitive compensation based on experience

No weekends
No holidays
Flexible scheduling

Associate Veterinarian

Johnstown Veterinary Associates is seeking an enthusiastic, friendly and compassionate associate veterinarian to join our 3-doctor small animal practice with responsibilities in one or both of our locations, Johnstown Veterinary Associates Main Campus in Johnstown, PA and Johnstown Veterinary Associates North Campus in Ebensburg, PA. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in different environments while providing high-quality care to our beloved patients. Since 1920, Johnstown Veterinary Associates has been privately owned and has been a member of the American Animal Hospital Association since 1958.

With the continued national shortage of veterinarians, you may wonder why being an associate veterinarian at Johnstown Veterinary Associates is the place for you. Here is a very short list of what we have to offer our veterinarians:

1. Exceptional mentorship—what we know, we share

2. No after-hour emergencies—when you leave for the night, you do not have to come back

3. Knowledgeable, hands-on, smart and friendly support staff who function in a positive and collaborative environment

4. In-house certified veterinary practice manager who acts as the liaison between veterinarians, clients, and clinic staff, basically responsible for non-veterinary things that veterinarians do not want to do

5. Paperless practice management software—practice utilizes ezyVet, a cloud-based system

6. A complete in-house IDEXX Laboratory that offers results to clients during their pet’s visit

7. In-house pharmacy—very rarely are scripts filled outside of pharmacy

8. Surgical suite that offers laser surgery, oxygen ICU unit, LigaSure, EKG, endoscope

9. Digital radiographs, dental radiographs with panoramic views, ultrasound, laser therapy

10. Very competitive salary (with pro-Sal option) and benefits package that includes all the basics that any veterinarian deserves such as paid vacation, professional liability insurance, medical insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid CE, 401K retirement with profit sharing, paid membership dues, uniform allowance, pet discount, and catered lunches at least twice per week.

What we require of our veterinarians is not that complicated. We trust that any PA-licensed veterinarian that graduated from an accredited institution knows what to do and loves what they do. But if we had a short wish list of what we are searching for in an individual, the following would be included:

1. Caring, energetic, and offers client-oriented and patient-centered care

2. Excellent communication both oral and written—maintains accurate and detailed medical records

3. Profound sense of humor

4. Possess a general understanding of emotional intelligence or EQ

5. Follows hospital protocols as directed

6. Focuses on preventative medicine and client education

7. Is honest, dependable and transparent

8. Able to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds and education levels

9. Maintains a professional, nonsense attitude when it comes to completing tasks

10. Promotes a drama-free work zone

If you think Johnstown Veterinary Associates is the place for you, please send your wonderful correspondence to Heidi Rizkalla, Practice Manager at heidirizkalla@hotmail.com New graduates are encouraged to apply.
